Fresh Hell (digital single)

by Easter

/

about

“Fresh Hell” is the first single from our new album Facsimile of a Dream, due February 2024 on Scratchy. Produced by Simon Ding Archer (PJ Harvey, The Pixies, The Fall) at 6db studios in Salford.

It's a song written during the lockdown while waiting around for BJ's awful weekly updates, and tries to articulate the impotent rage you feel watching the grim news cycle.

The album title also refers to the lockdown period in one sense, a document of that time, but it also harks back to pre-lockdown, when there was actually a possibility of some change on offer. Unfortunately we‟re forbidden from talking about that! There were solutions to many of the problems we face now, but that dream was crushed, never to be spoken of again.

lyrics

I know your heart breaks daily
and you can’t let go of it
Proximity to skin
but so far away from it
Miles from the synergy
of domestic bliss
Future that won’t quit
This present don’t exist

I know you’re sinking in this lockdown abyss
Back to square one - what fresh hell is this?

Lonely days drift and you
can’t see an end to it
yr isolated and
desperate to give in
Waiting again for some
half baked bullshit plan
Hundred thousand dead
still don’t give a damn
